Their next interviewee was a pretty African-American high school student with natural hair and a heart-shaped tattoo on her wrist. She was sitting with her mother and Brent when Quinn made his way over to them.

“Sorry for the delay,” he told them. “Family stuff.”

“Everything okay?” Talia asked, her tone guarded.

“Fine.” He put his cup down and offered a handshake to both the girl and her mother. “I’m Quinn Riley.”

“Sharona White,” her mother said, shaking his hand firmly. She was dressed in a purple sheath dress with a black jacket, and her intense dark eyes were peering at him through purple-rimmed glasses. “This is my daughter, Regina.”

“A pleasure.”

“They both had experiences in the house,” Talia told him. She backed up out of the shot. “Ready when you are.”

Brent jumped in, which surprised Quinn, but he was grateful for it.

“When did you go to the Murray House Museum?”

“Last month, as part of my American history class. Mom came along on the field trip as one of our chaperones,” Regina told him.

“What happened?”

“A ghost…” She took a ragged breath and squeezed her mother’s hand. “A ghost slapped me.”

“Wow.” Brent frowned. “That must’ve been really scary. How did that happen?”

Sharona took up the tale. “We were in the parlor of the Murray House, listening to the tour guide tell us about what life was like in the 1700s. The whole room went bitterly cold, and then Regina let out a yell. When I looked at her, there was a big handprint on her face.”

Regina passed her cellphone to them. “This is a picture.”

Quinn, Brent and the camera leaned in to get a good look. What they saw was more than just a handprint. It was a raised welt in the shape of a small-ish hand. If Quinn were to guess, he would say that it was a woman’s hand.

“That looks like it hurt.”

“It did,” she nodded, taking the phone back.

“It took three days for that mark to go away,” Sharona said.

“Did you hear anything else, or see anything else?”

“No. We didn’t wait around. The entire class turned right around and left the house when that happened. No way were we leaving our kids in any haunted house.”

Brent nodded. “I can certainly understand that. Violence like this is really scary.”

“I’m still not over it,” Regina admitted, her eyes brimming with tears. “I have nightmares about it, and I’m really jumpy now.”

“That’s terrible.” Quinn frowned. “I’m so sorry you went through that, and that it’s so upsetting.”

Sharona put her arm around her daughter’s shoulders. “We are never going back into that house, and if you’re smart, you won’t go there, either.”

“Well… we’re not that smart, I guess,” Quinn said. “Is there anything else you want to tell me? Any other experiences you’ve had?”

Regina and Sharona looked at one another, then the girl looked back at him. “No.”

“Okay. Thanks for coming here and doing this.”

“You’re welcome.” She stood up, and Sharona did, too. The two ghost hunters followed suit. “Whatever is in that house is evil. Be careful.
